Not asking for me but for my relative:
Okay here is the thing.
The food the small dogs eat is California Naturals Herring and Sweet potato.
I found out it doesn’t come in a puppy formula. (Only the lamb and rice and Chicken and rice).
So obviously they are going to have to buy 2 types of food for awhile.
They two older dogs, one of them can only handle the herring and sweet potato so that is what they feed.
Currently 1 15lb bag lasts a month. They plan to start buying the bigger bag ofcourse when the puppy can start on that formula.
So they are thinking of starting the puppy on lamb and then switching to herring as soon as possible.
At what point can they switch the puppy to the adult formula (herring and sweet potato) and what process do they need to take to switch from lamb to herring.
Thanks
The older dogs are both under 20lbs, and this is their first larger dog.
Puppy is 13 weeks old.
The adult dogs are 6 and 9
Excuse me, I was just informed the dog is a GSD/Malamute mix, not a GSD/Husky.
Sorry
THE BIG ISSUE IS going from lamb to herring
melala they don’t have a large breed/small breed formula.
The have puppy and adult.
hello i own 2 shar pei’s and i know all the ear problems and all the other problems believe me do i know! any way i youngest dog had a nasty ear so i took him to the vet, the vet suggested that we test his ear so we would know exactly what we are dealing with so we did, the test came back that he had ecoli in his ear. now i need to give you a hint more history about my older dog he is allergic to beef! he only eats food with lamb and rice or chicken and rice! i am beond diligent about them not eating beef. so how could my dog have ecoli??? anyone ever hear of a dog having it? i even asked the vet if maybe he got the test mixed up, they assured me they didn’t! i never heard of such a thing! any thoughts would be great!
Hello, the breeder where I got my angel only breeds imported Shepherds from checkoslovakia so I know I will not have the hip issues. However, I have been dealing with stomach issues which no one seems to be able to fix. She has been eating chicken and rice for the past 6 years and I noticed that she was always scratching her chin and chewing on her feet. I was surprised to find that they can become allergic to chicken. I first switched her to Evangers pheasant and rice but her poops were still pretty soft after a month and it smelled horrible. I switched again to AvoDerm baked lamb and rice formula about a week or so ago and am awaiting to see how she handles this. About once a week she has what I call a down day where she does not eat or drink the entire day and has constant loud borborygmus. Do you know anything about the AvoDerm dog food? For the down days, she eats grass and will usually vomit yellow bile which is telling me too much acid maybe. I want to help her.

She stopped the scratching and chewing on her feet when I got her off chicken, which is leading me to believe it is chicken. I just want to give her a good quality food. Orijen does not make lamb and rice.
By diet I don’t mean weight diet; my dog has bloody diarrhea. I made an emergency call to the vet. She saw her this morning, gave me some Imodium and some antibiotics. Told me for 2-3 days to feed her chicken and rice.
That is all fine and dandy.
She ALSO suggested that I change the dog’s diet to see if it might be something in the food that she is allergic to causing this diarrhea and bloody stool. She told me to stick with Acana but to try a different "flavor" if you will .. and the vet also told me commonly dogs are allergic to pork, lamb or beef .. the food I was feeding her was chicken-based .. and when I went to the pet store they told me more dogs are allergic to chicken, so she recommended lamb, what the vet recommended AGAINST.
Either way, I got the lamb stuff only because it was grain free and the other stuff had brown rice or something in it. Basically it is just to test her "allergies" if she has them and see how her body reacts.
So whose right and whose wrong? Clearly I would listen to my vet .. as common sense would tell me to do .. but I’ve been known to be led in the wrong direction by bad vets before, and this woman was just the emergency vet, not my regular vet.
I haven’t been able to get enough feces to run a fecal float, but with a smear she ruled out a few things. She is fully vaccinated and all so that also rules out certain things. If the diarrhea is not cleared up by tomorrow morning we are going to run some blood tests. They said it is pretty much "trial and error" with remedies for this, as it could be a lot of things. She has had diarrhea before, cleared up with some antibiotics. She has not lost any energy (she is a super playful dog) so they are not very concerned with it yet. I haven’t noticed anymore blood in her diarrhea (it was only once late last night) … the vet said certain things can irritate the stomach and cause blood in stool and a strange substance, perhaps something she has never eaten before, could cause it.
The first food she was on: Chicken, salmon & eggs (with brown rice and some other easily-digestible grain)
The food I am going to try after her chicken & rice diet (if it is indeed the chicken bothering her): lamb, duck, egg and salmon
Im looking to change my dogs current food. He has a health issue and needs to have low fat food. He also has a sensitive GI system. 2 months ago he had a infection in his colon and needed to eat chicken and rice. He is all clear from the infection and is back to normal. I started to introduce his kibble slowly back into his diet. I started to add 5 kibbles. The day after I started to re introduce the kibble he began to have GI issues again. So, I believe he may have a allergy to grain or the previous food. I worry that the chicken and rice does not have all of the nutrients he needs in his diet. The food he previously ate is California natural organic low fat lamb and rice. Any suggestions?
so i rescued my dog and he was overweight when i got him. The vet said he really should only lose 5-7 pounds to be an optimal weight. I am feeding him California Natural chicken and rice, which they do not have a weight control formula in. I was wondering if lowering the amount of food he is fed and giving him plenty of exercise is sufficient enough for him to lose the weight he needs to.
ps. California Natural does come in a weight control formula, but it is lamb and rice and he is allergic to lamb.
My dog was sick with some stomach problems a few months ago and during that time the vet switched her to some prescription food. She had previously eaten dry food her whole life (6 years) but the vet switched her to wet food and I just kept her on it even after the illness cleared up. However, she has had diarreah recently and I think it is because of her food. I feed her Pedigree chunky wet food exclusively. She doesn’t get any human food. I do swithc flavors of the food, just like from chicken and rice, to beef and rice to lamb and veggies, etc. but it is all the same style from the same brand. Switching flavors isn’t a big enough change to give her diarreah, is it? Should I just get one flavor and always giver her that? Or should I change to a different brand or back to dry food? She seems to really love the wet food(I’m sure it tastes better than dry) but she always has diarreah.
Other than that, she seems totally healthy. Also, it’s not like she is going diarreah all day long, it is only usually twice per day, just like she used to, just now it is really runny instead of a log like normal. Sorry to be gross and long, just want to get all the details in. Thanks for any advice. Oh ya, 6 YO female english Bulldog. Thanks.
What’s wrong with Pedigree? I thought that was one of the big name brands. I love my dog and treat her like my child, however, I am not very informed on these sorts of matters because she has never really had any problems. Is it just junk food? Bad ingredients? Maybe that is why her poo is the way it is. Oh, and by can I do this, I meant change flavors.
I used to feed her NutroMax, is that good stuff? That is what a guy I went to school with whose parents own a vet store suggested. What kind of wet food is good?
