Would this food be ok to feed?

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

I am thinking of switchin back to what I used to feed my dos which was Eagle pack. They both did reat with it and my dog Duke’s skin got better on it also.

I am also switching because on their current food they scratch right above where there tail is. On Eagle pack they didn’t.

Last time I bought the Lamb and rice but I am thinking of getting this kind cause he is a bit chubby but not by much.
he also has allergies if this helps(atopic Dermatitis).

or should I get this one-
http://www.eaglepack.com/SP_Natural.html- this one says its great for GSD’s which both of my dogs are mixed with.

my dogs urine pH is too high..does she need more protein?

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

i’m a vet tech so i have the luxury of getting a good discount on services at work..taking advantage of that i like to check up on my dogs health every year or so by running some basic tests. today i took her in for a fecal, giardia test (shes had diarrhea, but i think its because she ate 2 bags of treats on saturday :/), a urinalysis and an ERD test. everything came out absolutely normal except her urine pH is 9. thats high, since normal is between 6-8 but about 6.5 is ideal.
right now she eats california natural lamb and rice food because it did wonders for her allergies, but it only has a protein level of 21%. do you think i should change her to a higher protein food to help acidify her pH?

i know someone is going to say ask your vet/boss, but he doesnt seem to care much about stuff like this until there is a problem, and he just recommends some form of hill’s food for pretty much every problem out there, and i dont like hill’s at all and i’d rather try to fix this naturally before she develops a UTI or crystals
1. she has had a cbc and profile which showed her kidney levels being fine, as well as an ERD test which tests for protein being leaked into the urine before a blood test can pick it up, which was negative, so i’m about 90% sure nothing is wrong with her kidneys.

2. to the person trying to tell me how horrible of a person i am-stop trying to sound like you are some perfect pet owner, of course she ACCIDENTALLY ate the 2 bags of treats. i’m sure nothing ever happens to your perfect pets.

most people ask questions on here to get personal experiences from other people or suggestions, so dont just assume everyone is dumb enough to go do whatever someone on here says.

wet food or dry food or both?

Monday, April 25th, 2011

I was thinking about mixing a cup of wet food and 2 cups of dry food for my puppy.
He isn’t on puppy food anymore due to poultry allergies but he is doing fine [he eats wellness lamb and rice]

I was wondering if that would be okay for him ;D and if wet food is really bad for their teeth or not.

PS does Wellness make wet food? :o

What do you feed your dog?

must not give into puppy’s tactics!

dog has dry itchy skin in her ears?

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

I have a 2 and a half year old Affenpincher. Over the last week I notice she has been scratching her ears lot. Today I finally held her down to look. Her skin is dry and pealing a little in her right ear. Than I looked in the left there is a scab. Both ears are red. What do you think could be causing it? I have her on 4 health Lamb and Rice dog food because she was having allergies before mainly her eyes were draining a lot. She had ear mites 2 years ago I don’t think that is it. Plus I have 2 other dogs and a cat who’s ears are completely fine. Is there something I can put on it?

What type of good food for a dog with allergies?

Saturday, November 27th, 2010

My dog has been having very loose stool since I have gotten him. He is a lab x border collie. I have seen a vet – the ultrasound did not show anything abnormal. Fecal test was clear of giardia and other parasites. Bacterial infections are also unlikely based on the rest of the findings. Allergies seem to be the most likely problem. The dog was on Candie Lamb and Rice. I switched to Wellness Lamb and Barley. It made it worse over the past month.

What is a good, high quality, hypo allergenic food that you guys would suggest I try?

1 year old dog constantly itching and biting herself?

Saturday, November 27th, 2010

She is a pyrenees/bernese mountain dog cross. Just recently she has started itching and biting herself constantly. We have checked her fleas and she doesn’t seem to have any. We took her to the vet and they said she was probably allergic to her food. They gave us some antibiotics (cephalexin) which we give her day and night. We changed her food to a lamb and rice diet. The food we are using is called lamaderm natural life. She has been on this for about 4 weeks and she is still constantly scratching and is no better. Do you have any idea?
We did bathe her today with some shampoo specific for allergies that the vet gave us. This gave her a little relief.

Would this make the food im feeding my dog a good one?

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

I am feeding him Eagle Pack Holistic Lamb and Rice and he’s been on it for at least a month.

But I have noticed he:
farts less and poops less
No runny stools
plays more
keeps his tear stains away
doesn’t make his eyes watery

I ran out of it this weekend and fed him what I had of other food and he had tear stains and watery eyes and he farted more.

It also helps with with skin on his stomach and his scratching as well!
With other food thats how my dog is! It makes him eat grass and vomit and his allergies are worse.

But with this food I have seen improvement and I won’t change his food back to the junk food I was feeding him!
I won’t run out this time! I only ran out because I was sick last week and I couldn’t go get any until today.

Well I could of but I would of had to gone to a store that sells puppy mill dogs and I won’t support that!

I used to feed him Purina One and I can see now that it was bad for him!

I am glad someone told me about this food.

I had tried Canidae before this but his eyes do the same thing.

My other dog she doesn’t get tear stains or watery eyes but she does get flaky skin and I haven’t noticed any of that on her.

She likes the food too!

It is Bossoli! I didn’t believe it before but now I do.

I needed to see improvement before I knew it was right! He seems to like the food better too and I don’t have to feed him as much of it and it lasts longer then 2 weeks for both dogs.

Dog allergies?

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

Okay, my beagle/dachshund mix has bad allergies. She’s had them for about a year and a half now. But I have no clue as to what she could be allergic to. I’ve put her on Innova EVO because it’s grain free, but there was no change. She was eating a lamb and rice based dog food, and now it’s chicken and turkey. Not too long ago, she spent a couple of weeks at the dog kennel where I work. My boss said she didn’t itch at all while she was there. That means, it’s something around my house that is making her itch. She itches year round, so it’s not seasonal. The house I’m living in now I moved to about two years ago, she wasn’t itching at my old place. Currently, she is on prednisone, but I don’t want her to stay on it forever. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what was your dog allergic to? Would it be the carpeting in my house? Or maybe even the furniture?
She’s been at the kennel one other time, again, there was no scratching at all! There are ‘calm down’ times at the kennel, if she had to itch then she would have then. Apart from that, her poo is perfectly normal and apart from the itching and occasional ear infection because of it, she’s totally healthy.

I know there’s tests you can do. But in addition to being expensive, they’re not always accurate and can end up actually causing some allergies to crop up! And I don’t want to take that chance.

What is this bump on my dog's upper lip?

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

I just noticed today that my dog has a tiny bump where her whiskers are. It looks like a pimple ready to pop, but flesh-toned and red in the middle. She is a lab mix, about four years old. She has been having some skin problems lately. The last time we took her to the vet we were told to give her lamb and rice food because her allergies to beef and chicken were giving her dandruff and dirty ears. She’s been on the lamb and rice diet for about two months now, but the past week she’s had some dry patches on her underbelly that look very red and scabby. I gave her some pedigree wet food for a treat yesterday, I hope that isn’t what triggered the reaction on her lip. If anyone knows what this could be please respond!
